The process of opening an aroma espresso bar franchise from the initial application to the grand opening can seem overwhelming. Here is a general breakdown of the more common steps to help you better understand a normal franchise sale process.
Information Review: All the information provided online should be thoroughly reviewed, including the FAQ section.
Initial Application: Download and complete the initial application. Follow instructions for submission for review.
Initial Meeting: Once the application has been reviewed and the potential franchise partner is considered for a franchise opportunity, they may be contacted for an initial meeting. This meeting is a chance for the potential franchise partner to ask questions and for the franchisor to assess in person the qualities of the applicant to ensure they meet aroma franchise partner standards.
Second Application: A more detailed application is then provided to the potential franchise partner to be completed and submitted to the franchisor.
Due Diligence: With the permission of the potential franchise partner, the franchisor performs any investigations of the potential franchise partner that may be necessary
Meeting and Delivery of Franchise Disclosure Documents: Once the second application has been reviewed and due diligence completed, the franchisor may decide to deliver a Franchise Disclosure Document (FDD).
Review of FDD: The potential franchise partner should review the FDD and have a lawyer and business or accounting advisor review it as well on their behalf.
Franchise Agreements: At least 14 days from the receipt of the FDD, if the franchisor and potential franchise partner agree to do so, the franchise agreements are signed and the potential franchise partner is now on their way to becoming an aroma espresso bar team member.
Franchise Fees: Franchise fees are due upon execution of the franchise agreement.
Site Selection: Once the franchise agreements are executed, site selection can begin.
The following site requirements are considered key factors when choosing a location, though it must be recognized each location is unique, and specific factors may be more or less significant in any particular case:
- Traffic – foot traffic in urban areas (the more, the better), car traffic in suburban areas.
- Average neighbourhood household income
- Size – ideally 1600-2500 square feet
- Visibility – corner locations or locations with high visibility
- Downtown: dense urban areas with very strong office presence and foot traffic.
- Neighborhood: hip and trendy spots on busy neighborhood streets, preferably with a patio
- Mall and Shopping Centers: busy, high-end, well-maintained malls, strip malls, and shopping centers
- Campus: on or near large college and university campuses
- Main Street: on a clean, high-end main street of a small city or suburb
- Tourist Area: in the vicinity of major tourist attractions
- Nightlife: in an area with a strong night-time atmosphere and presence.
Training and Support: As provided for in the franchise agreement, the franchise partner is trained in certain aspects of the operation. Support is provided in the following areas:

Previous experience in the food service or management industry is welcome, but not required. aroma espresso bar’s comprehensive training program attempts to ensure all our franchise partners are confident in their own abilities to run a successful franchise upon completion.
Are there costs associated with the initial franchise partner training program mentioned above?
No, the cost of the comprehensive initial management training program and ongoing support is provided at no additional charge, though you may incur ancillary costs, such as food and transport, during participation.

How much is the initial franchise fee?
The initial franchise fee is $50,000 – due upon signing the franchise agreements. More information regarding fees (royalties and advertising) is available on the “Aroma Franchise at a Glance” page.
Can aroma espresso bar open another franchise near my store?
At the time of site selection, a store “protected area” will be designated. The size of this “protected area” depends on various factors, such as population density and other surrounding competitors. There are also other limited exceptions to the “protected area” as set out in the franchise agreement.
How long does it take to select a location and how are locations selected?
Length of time in reference to location selection varies greatly depending on many factors – these factors include, but are not limited to: market availability, number of franchise partners waiting for locations, and finding suitable locations for each franchise partner. How long will it take to open my location?
There are many variables that can affect the length of time it requires to open a location from the time franchise documents are executed. aroma espresso bar Canada cannot commit to a specific timeline. Please see the Franchise Process page for more information.
What is an FDD?
An FDD is a Franchise Disclosure Document – a legal document provided by the franchisor outlining important business information and information about the franchisor to the franchise owner. It is designed to help the potential franchise partner better understand the brand and operation. The FDD precedes the franchise agreement.
What will my ROI (return on investment) be?
There are many factors associated with a business’s operation that make it impossible to estimate the return on investment. Variables such as location, operating costs, demographics, terms of loans, sales, and management all play great roles in establishing ROI. We encourage you to seek sound advice from our existing franchise partners, an accountant, and a lawyer when reviewing the FDD.
Why do owners have to be operators?
Owner-operators ensures proprietors are fully invested in the brand and committed to hands-on management, delivery of high-quality product, and a clean and welcoming environment paired with exceptional customer service. This is the foundation of superior customer experiences, increased brand loyalty, and maximization of profits for all stakeholders.
Does Aroma assist in financing?
Aroma does not provide financing. We can assist in obtaining small business loans with various lenders.
Where can I find detailed financial information, such as financial statements?

How does the construction/building process work?
Our team of architects, designers and contractors work together with the franchisor and franchise partner to build all our locations. Please note franchisees are responsible for the cost of constructing their own locations. Construction costs are noted on the “Aroma Franchise at a Glance” page.
Once I open my location, can I make changes to the menu or branding?
The aroma experience is meant to be fluid and reliable from location to location. The branding and menu have been expertly crafted and executed over time, learning from trial and error. Though the franchisor welcomes any and all feedback from the franchise partner, ultimately, the franchise partner is not permitted to make changes to the menu or branding.
Can I open multiple locations?
In some cases, aroma will consider franchising multiple locations to one owner. Many factors are taken into account however, such as performance of the first location, financials, and the presence of a managing/operating partner at each location who is also a principal in the operation.
